James was the leader of his coven, with his mate Victoria and his coven mate Laurent. He caught the scent of Bella Swan, and hunted her as his next meal in Twilight. Using his power of tracking, he found Bella in Phoenix, and tried to lure her into a trap by claiming he had captured Bella's mother, Renée Dwyer. However, he failed to make Bella his meal and was killed by Emmett Cullen and Jasper Hale. He was the main antagonist of the Twilight book.
He is portrayed by Cam Gigandet in the movie adaptation.

Long Live Life
James returned and joined a group of vampires, in metal form, to ambushed the Cullens. He and the others were soon pinned down until they escaped by dissolving into smoke and disappeared. It was revealed that he was under the control by a half-human half-vampire hybrid named Skai who was planning to get revenge on Lucien Summers by killing his mate Luna Snow using the sword IL Mietitore Capacità where it controls gifted vampires dead and alive. However, Skai lost the battle and the sword was destroyed bringing James back to where he was to the dead.
