Charlie Swan is the father of Bella Swan, the seconds husband of Sue Clearwater, the ex-husband of Renee Dwyer, the maternal grandfather of Renesmee Cullen, the father-in-law of Edward Cullen, the grandson-in-law of Jacob Black, the great grandfather of Evan and Sarah Black and great grandfather-in-law of Korrina Snow and Damien Grant as well as the step father of Seth and Leah Clearwater. He is the Chief of Police in Forks, Washington.
He is portrayed by Billy Burke.

A New Life
Sometime in the last eight years, Charlie marries Sue. Bella makes a visit to Charlie and brings Lucas Stone along to meet him. There, it turns out that Lucas and Charlie know each other due to Charlie’s friendship with Lucas’s father, Kendall Stone, also a Chief of Police in Lacey. Charlie was sad to have heard that Kendall, along with his wife Jessica Stone and his daughter Lilly Stone were killed in a fire in their home which was later revealed to have been caused by the Volturi.

Charlie attended the wedding of Lucas and Krystal Diamond. At the reception, he was seen giving a toast of congratulations and tells the story how Lucas once handcuffed Charlie when he was a kid and lost the keys.
Have A Purpose
Charlie first appears in a cameo attending the wedding of Tiffany Stewart and Jalen Long. Two weeks later, Charlie was called by Krystal after she and Lucina Stewart were harassed by Mike Newton and was even outraged when Lucas showed him a photo possessed by Mike where it shows a photo shopped version of him and Bella together, giving all the more reason for Charlie to throw Mike in jail.
Charlie later appears with Sue dropping by at the Cullens’ home to wish them a Merry Christmas. There, he confronts Jalen knowing of his crime he was falsely accused of and his time on the run. Charlie states that he believes Jalen is innocent and will not turn him in, but advises him and the Cullens to be careful in order to clear his name. He was last seen in the story where a meeting was held at the police statin held by his boss Commissioner Asher Pennington after he berated everyone minus Charlie for their involement at North Central High School prom. Asher then later promoted Charlie to Assistant Commissioner after firing the previous one, leaving Charlie stunned.
A Christmas Surprise
Charlie celebrates Christmas with the Cullens at their place joined by a few other guests where the Cullens tell them about the supernatural and finding out them being vampires. The reason why is because as the new Volturi, the Cullens told every one of their story and the events that has happened revealing about the supernatural. They made one adjustment to the law about revealing their existence; if a civilized vampire has any living family member or someone connected to, they have the right to know as long as they don't reveal the existence to other humans. Since Charlie is married to Sue, that makes him third-in-command of the Quileute council and because of his relationship with Bella and her family, Charlie was brought into the supernatural.

Lucas Stone

Lucas Stone is the son of Kendall Stone who he is best friends with.
Lucas has known Charlie when he was born in Forks although he never met Bella. Lucas states that he loves Charlie because he’s cool and funny even though he doesn’t hover about his feelings but Charlie does love Lucas too. When Lucas was six, he actually handcuffed Charlie and lost the keys leaving Charlie stuck in those handcuffs for two hours. Despite how crazy Lucas is and how he’s like Kendall, Charlie loves Lucas and in public, Lucas poses as Bella’s cousin.
When Kendall was promoted to chief of police in Lacey, Lucas was sad to say goodbye to Charlie and hasn’t seen him again until A New Life revealing Lucas to know who Bella is.
Kendall Stone

Kendall Stone is Charlie's best friend.
The two are considered close according to Lucas being there for one another with Kendall losing his family and Charlie going through a divorce with Renee. The two joined the police force together. On Jessica and Kendall’s wedding, Charlie was Kendall’s best man. He was the one to encourage Kendall to propose to Jessica when he felt hesitant due to witnessing Charlie’s divorce. When Kendall was promoted to chief of police in Lacey, Kendall and Charlie bid a sad farewell when Kendall and his family had to move but the two remained in touch. Charlie was sad when he received the news from Lucas that Kendall along with Jessica and Lilly were killed in a fire caused by the Volturi.
